Porsche Celebrates One-Millionth Macan Production in Leipzig
The Porsche plant in Leipzig has reached a remarkable milestone: the production of its one-millionth Macan. Since its launch in 2013, the compact SUV has become one of Porsche’s most successful models worldwide. In 2024 alone, 82,795 Macan vehicles were delivered to customers across the globe.
A Model That Symbolizes Growth and Transformation
“The Macan is inseparably linked to Leipzig,” said Gerd Rupp, Chairman of the Management Board of Porsche Leipzig GmbH. “It represents growth and change like no other, symbolising both the site’s expansion into a full factory between 2011 and 2013 and the plant’s entry into the era of electromobility.”
The decision to build the Macan in Leipzig, taken in 2011, transformed the former assembly plant into a complete factory with its own body shop and paint shop, creating 1,500 new jobs in the region.
From Combustion to Electric: A Flexible Production Site
Over the past 12 years, the Macan has positioned Porsche as a key economic driver in Central Germany. In 2024, production of the fully electric second-generation Macan began, marking another leap forward. Today, the Leipzig plant produces vehicles with combustion, hybrid, and electric powertrains on a single highly flexible production line.
The Anniversary Car: A Striking Macan 4
The one-millionth Macan is a Macan 4 in Frozen Blue Metallic. Its standout features include:
- Two-tone leather interior in Black and Chalk
- Adaptive Sports Seats and heated GT Sports steering wheel
- Head-up display with augmented reality
- Panoramic glass roof
Powered by a high-voltage 100 kWh battery, the Macan 4 delivers up to 300 kW (408 hp), accelerating from 0–100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds and reaching a top speed of 220 km/h. Its range extends up to 612 km, and fast charging (10–80% in ~21 minutes on 800V DC chargers) ensures everyday convenience.
A Special Delivery for a Porsche Enthusiast
The milestone vehicle was handed over at the Porsche Experience Center Leipzig to its new owner, Stefan Schmidt from Kiel, Germany. The 62-year-old entrepreneur highlighted the Macan’s perfect blend of sportiness and practicality. His factory collection experience included a guided test drive on the plant’s racetrack, featuring corners inspired by world-famous circuits.
“Collecting the car here in Leipzig and experiencing the track were unforgettable highlights. Today I truly felt the passion of the Porsche brand up close,” said Schmidt.
Leipzig: A Hub of Innovation and Excellence
Since its opening in 2002, the Leipzig plant has grown into one of Porsche’s most advanced and award-winning production sites, employing around 5,000 people. Alongside the Macan, the Panamera is also manufactured here, while previous icons like the Cayenne and Carrera GT were once built at this location. The site’s Porsche Experience Center, with racetrack and off-road course, further reflects the brand’s customer-focused spirit.
The factory’s achievements in sustainability and smart manufacturing have earned it prestigious awards, including the “Lean and Green Management Award” (2021) and “Factory of the Year” (2023).
