Isuzu unveils the 2027 D-MAX and MU-X with a stronger twin-turbo diesel engine

Isuzu has revealed the updated versions of the D-Max and MU-X models 2027 in Thailand, introducing a new 2.2-liter turbocharged diesel engine, along with modifications to the exterior design of both vehicles.

The new engine delivers a power output of 201 horsepower and a torque of 500 Newton meters, thus surpassing the larger 3.0-liter diesel engine used in most trims of both vehicles.

The updated versions are expected to begin reaching showrooms in Thailand by the end of October, while Isuzu has not yet announced the launch dates for other markets. The company produces the D-Max and MU-X in Thailand for the local and international markets.

New Engine Surpasses 3.0-Liter Diesel

The new diesel engine is based on the Ddi Maxforce four-cylinder 2.2-liter engine, which Isuzu introduced globally in late 2024, with the addition of a twin-turbo system to increase power and torque.

The engine produces 201 horsepower at 3600 RPM, while its torque reaches 500 Newton meters between 1600 and 2600 RPM.

Compared to the 3.0-liter diesel engine, which produces around 188 horsepower and 450 Newton meters, the new engine offers an increase of approximately 13 horsepower and 50 Newton meters, despite its smaller size.

It also outperforms the 2.2-liter version with a single turbo, which has a power output of about 161 horsepower and a torque of 400 Newton meters, by a margin of up to 40 horsepower and 100 Newton meters.

8-Speed Automatic Transmission

The twin-turbo engine operates with a fuel injection system that reaches a pressure of 250 megapascals, with injectors featuring ten openings to improve fuel distribution inside the combustion chambers.

It is connected to a 6-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed automatic transmission, with a new calibration for the automatic transmission suited to the engine’s characteristics. This system will be available in the higher trims of the D-Max and MU-X, without any announcements on fuel consumption or acceleration figures yet.

The exterior changes for the Isuzu D-Max focus on the front end, where the pickup has received new grille designs and adjustments around the fog lights, differing by trim.

Some trims come with a fog light frame in body color and a slightly smaller grille, while one of the new grille designs features three rectangular openings near the front edge of the hood.

The D-Max retains its basic design, with no significant changes announced in its dimensions or structure.

Updates have also extended to the Isuzu MU-X family SUV, which shares many mechanical components with the D-Max. Most of its trims feature a revised front grille that includes two closely spaced horizontal bars, along with a new design for the lower part of the rear bumper.

The RS trim has received a new front grille and glossy black fog light frames, along with lime green accents on the wheel covers, logos, and interior stitching. It also features a new arrow-shaped element within the headlight cluster.

These details give the RS trim a sportier appearance while the MU-X retains its overall design and family-oriented character suitable for long trips.
